A torque converter that turns any value between newton-metres (N·m), kilogram-force metres (kgf·m), pound-force feet (lbf·ft), pound-force inches (lbf·in) and dyne-centimetres (dyn·cm). Type one number, choose your From and To units, and the headline updates instantly while the grid below shows the same torque expressed in every supported unit at once. It is built for mechanics reading mixed-unit service manuals, engineers checking a fastener spec, and anyone whose torque wrench is calibrated in different units than the specification they are following.
How it works
Every unit is defined by how many newton-metres sit in one of it, and the tool
converts through that single base. When you enter a value it is first turned into
newton-metres (value × the From factor) and then divided by the To factor, so all
five readouts always stay perfectly consistent. The factors are exact by
definition: a pound-force is 4.4482216152605 N, a foot is 0.3048 m and an inch
is 0.0254 m, which gives 1 lbf·ft = 1.3558179483314 N·m and
1 lbf·in = 0.1129848290276 N·m. A kilogram-force metre uses standard gravity,
9.80665 N·m, and a dyne-centimetre is exactly 1e-7 N·m. Because foot equals
twelve inches, 1 lbf·ft is always exactly 12 lbf·in — a handy sanity check.
Precision adapts to the size of the number, so small fastener torques keep enough decimals while large engine figures stay readable. The swap button flips the From and To units in place, which is the fastest way to bounce between, say, a manual quoted in N·m and a wrench marked in lbf·ft. The grid and the reference table below it let you eyeball several conversions without retyping anything.
Example
A wheel lug nut spec of 110 N·m needs checking on a wrench marked in lbf·ft.
Enter 110, set From to N·m and To to lbf·ft: the result is about
81.13 lbf·ft. The grid also shows it as roughly 11.22 kgf·m and
973.6 lbf·in at the same time. Going the other way, 100 lbf·ft comes out as
about 135.58 N·m.
| From | Value | N·m | lbf·ft | kgf·m |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| N·m | 1 | 1 | 0.737562 | 0.101972 |
| lbf·ft | 1 | 1.355818 | 1 | 0.138255 |
| kgf·m | 1 | 9.80665 | 7.233014 | 1 |
| lbf·in | 1 | 0.112985 | 0.083333 | 0.011521 |
