A fast, accurate pressure converter that turns any value between the eight units engineers, divers, meteorologists, mechanics and chemists actually use: pascal (Pa), kilopascal (kPa), bar, pounds per square inch (psi), standard atmosphere (atm), millimetre of mercury (mmHg), torr and inch of mercury (inHg). How it works

Pressure is force per unit area, and the pascal (one newton per square metre) is the SI base unit. Every other unit is just a fixed multiple of the pascal, so the converter works in two simple steps. First it multiplies your input by the pascal-equivalent of the starting unit to get a value in pascals. Then it divides by the pascal-equivalent of the target unit. Because every unit shares this single pascal pivot, the whole result grid stays perfectly consistent no matter which field you change.

The factors are exact wherever the definitions allow it: 1 bar is exactly 100000 Pa, 1 atm is exactly 101325 Pa, and 1 psi is exactly 6894.757293168361 Pa (one pound-force of 4.4482216152605 N spread over a square inch of 0.0254 m per side). The mercury units use the conventional 1 mmHg = 133.322387415 Pa, while 1 torr is defined as 1/760 of a standard atmosphere — the two differ by under two parts per million. Inch of mercury uses the conventional 0 °C value of 3386.389 Pa.

The display rounds sensibly: large numbers show four decimals, mid-range values show six, and very small results fall back to scientific notation so you never lose precision. Nothing is ever sent over the network.

Worked example

Suppose your tyre gauge reads 32 psi and the workshop manual specifies the pressure in bar. Select psi as the from unit, bar as the to unit, and type 32. The tool multiplies 32 by 6894.757293168361 to get 220632.23 Pa, then divides by 100000 to give roughly 2.2063 bar. The grid also reveals 220.63 kPa, 2.177 atm, 1654.9 mmHg and 65.15 inHg for the same pressure — handy if you cross-check against a different gauge.
