A strikethrough text generator that turns whatever you type into c̶r̶o̶s̶s̶e̶d̶-̶o̶u̶t̶ characters you can copy and paste straight into a social post, a bio, a username, a chat message or a document. It is for anyone who wants the “crossed out” look in a place that has no built-in strikethrough button — most social networks, many chat apps and plenty of comment boxes. Type on the left, and five different styles render live on the right, each with its own copy button.
How it works
There is no special “strikethrough font” here. Instead the tool uses Unicode combining overlay marks. A combining mark is an invisible-on-its-own character that the font draws on top of the character immediately before it. After each letter the generator appends one of these marks, and the font renders a line, slash or squiggle across that letter. Because the underlying letters stay as normal text, the output is still real, copy-pasteable Unicode rather than an image.
Five variants are available: a long continuous line, a shorter dashed line, a long diagonal slash, a short slash and a wavy tilde overlay. An option to cross through spaces makes the line look continuous across whole sentences instead of breaking between words. The whole process is reversible: the tool strips any overlay marks it recognises before re-applying your chosen style, so you can paste already-struck text in, switch styles, or pull clean plain text back out from the Remove strikethrough box at the bottom.
Everything runs locally in your browser. No text is uploaded, and there is no network request of any kind.
Example
Type Sold out and pick the long-line style and you get S̶o̶l̶d̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶. Switch to the slash style and the same words come back as S̸o̸l̸d̸ ̸o̸u̸t̸, while the wavy style gives S̴o̴l̴d̴ ̴o̴u̴t̴. Drop any of those into a marketplace listing or a chat to show a price or item that is no longer available, then use the Remove strikethrough box to recover the clean Sold out whenever you need it.
| Style | Mark used | Look |
|---|---|---|
| Long line | long stroke overlay | continuous line through text |
| Short line | short stroke overlay | lighter dashed line |
| Long slash | long solidus overlay | full diagonal slash |
| Short slash | short solidus overlay | short diagonal slash |
| Wavy | tilde overlay | squiggly line through text |
Every character is transformed in your browser — nothing is ever sent anywhere.
