Montana’s minimum wage for 2025 is $10.55 per hour, one of the highest state-set floors in the Mountain West and notably above the stagnant federal rate of $7.25/hr. This calculator takes that rate as its starting point, but you can edit it to model any hourly wage — useful whether you are a worker checking a pay stub, an employer costing a new hire, or a student comparing job offers across states.

How it works

The calculator performs three separate computations every time you change an input.

Regular pay covers the first 40 hours of the workweek at your entered rate. Overtime pay covers any hours beyond 40, multiplied by 1.5 under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA §207). Both are added together to give weekly gross pay. Monthly gross uses the exact 52-week average (weekly gross multiplied by 52, then divided by 12), and annual gross is simply weekly gross multiplied by 52.

The comparison panel calculates the same three pay periods at the Montana state minimum ($10.55/hr) and the federal minimum ($7.25/hr), then shows the difference against your entered wage — so you can see at a glance how far above or below the legal floor you are working.

Worked example

A Montana retail worker is paid the 2025 state minimum of $10.55/hour and works 44 hours in a busy week during the holiday period.

  • Regular pay: 40h at $10.55 = $422.00
  • Overtime pay: 4h at $15.825 (1.5x) = $63.30
  • Weekly gross: $485.30
  • Monthly gross (52-week average): $2,103.00
  • Annual gross (52 weeks): $25,235.60

If the same worker had been paid only the federal minimum of $7.25/hr for the same schedule, their annual gross would be approximately $17,342.50 — a difference of roughly $7,893 per year. Montana’s inflation-linked rate directly closes that gap.

Montana minimum wage history

Montana’s minimum wage has risen steadily since the state linked it to CPI-W inflation in 2006. Recent years: 2022 $9.20 · 2023 $9.95 · 2024 $10.30 · 2025 $10.55. The rate is announced each October and takes effect on January 1. Because it tracks actual purchasing power, it has consistently outpaced the frozen federal floor.
