Indiana is one of several US states whose minimum wage statute exactly mirrors the federal floor. Under Ind. Code § 22-2-2-4, the Indiana state minimum wage is $7.25 per hour — a rate unchanged since July 24, 2009, when it rose in step with the final phase of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) increase. This calculator converts that hourly rate (or any wage above it) into the figures that matter for real budgeting: weekly gross pay, monthly gross pay, and annual gross salary, with overtime factored in automatically whenever you work more than 40 hours in a week.

How it works

Enter your hourly wage and your average hours per week. The calculator divides your hours into two buckets:

  • Regular time — the first 40 hours at your straight-time rate.
  • Overtime — any hours beyond 40, rated at 1.5 times your regular rate, as mandated by FLSA Section 7(a)(1).

Weekly gross = (regular hours x wage) + (overtime hours x wage x 1.5).

Monthly gross is derived as weekly x 52 / 12, giving the exact average across every calendar month regardless of its length. Annual gross is weekly x 52. All arithmetic runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.

Suppose you work 45 hours per week at the Indiana minimum of $7.25 per hour:

At a straight 40 hours per week with no overtime, the Indiana minimum wage yields a weekly gross of $290.00, a monthly gross of $1,256.67, and an annual gross of $15,080.00 — figures that are identical to the federal minimum for the same reason: both rates are $7.25/hr. All results are before federal income tax, Indiana state income tax (3.05% flat rate as of 2024), county income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and any other deductions.

Indiana minimum wage in context

Indiana enacted its minimum wage statute decades ago, but legislators have long tied the state rate to whatever the federal FLSA sets. The result is that Indiana workers have not seen a mandated pay increase since 2009. In purchasing-power terms, the $7.25 rate in 2025 buys considerably less than it did when first set, given cumulative inflation over sixteen years.

Unlike some neighboring states — Illinois, which rose to $14/hr in 2024 and $15/hr in 2025, or Michigan and Ohio, which operate above the federal floor — Indiana has not enacted a scheduled phase-in toward a higher rate. Indiana also preempts local governments from setting their own minimums, so Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville and every other Indiana city must apply the same $7.25 statewide floor.

For workers in tipped occupations (servers, bartenders, delivery drivers receiving gratuities), federal rules allow an employer to pay a direct cash wage as low as $2.13 per hour, provided the combination of cash wage plus tips equals at least $7.25 per hour in every workweek. Indiana does not supplement or modify this federal tipped-minimum provision.
