Alaska minimum wage law links the state rate directly to the Anchorage cost of living, making it one of the most consistently updated floors in the United States. This calculator shows your gross weekly, monthly and annual pay at any hourly wage — defaulting to the current Alaska minimum of $11.91/hr — including overtime at 1.5x for hours above 40 per week, and a side-by-side comparison to the federal $7.25/hr floor.

How it works

Enter your hourly wage and hours per week. The calculator splits your weekly hours into two bands:

  • Regular time — up to 40 hours, paid at your entered rate.
  • Overtime — any hours above 40, paid at 1.5x the entered rate (the FLSA overtime premium).

Weekly gross is the sum of both bands. Monthly gross uses the 52-week year convention (weekly × 52 ÷ 12) so the figure represents an average month rather than a calendar month with a varying number of paydays. Annual gross is simply weekly × 52.

The federal comparison table replicates the same calculation at $7.25/hr, then shows the dollar premium Alaska workers receive from the higher state rate. For a 40-hour week this premium is $186.40/week — or $9,692.80 more per year — compared to the federal floor.

Worked example

A full-time worker in Juneau earning Alaska minimum wage works 45 hours in a week.

ComponentHoursRateAmount
Regular pay40$11.91/hr$476.40
Overtime pay5$17.87/hr$89.32
Weekly gross45$565.72
Monthly gross (avg)$2,451.47
Annual gross$29,417.70

At the federal rate of $7.25/hr the same 45-hour week would yield only $344.38 — Alaska’s $11.91 rate produces $221.35 more in a single week, or over $11,500 more per year.

Alaska minimum wage history

Alaska has adjusted its minimum wage upward every year since the inflation-indexing law took effect. The trajectory reflects cumulative Anchorage CPI growth:

YearAlaska minimum wage
2023$10.85/hr
2024$11.73/hr
2025$11.91/hr

The federal minimum wage has not changed since 2009, widening the gap with Alaska each year.

What this calculator does not cover

This tool calculates gross pay only — it does not deduct federal income tax, FICA, health insurance premiums, or retirement contributions. Because Alaska has no state income tax, the only guaranteed deductions from a paycheck are federal. Use the results here as an input to a full take-home pay or budgeting calculation. All math runs entirely in your browser; no figures are sent to any server.
